Stoughton Parish Plan
Welcome to this report prepared by Stoughton Parish Plan Committee, following the most comprehensive survey ever undertaken in the village of Stoughton and the surrounding areas. Community consultation has been the backbone of our Parish Plan. All the hard work has been undertaken by a small but dedicated committee of unpaid local people, using information and views expressed by Stoughton residents. By consulting everyone - not just the people living in the village itself but also those living in the outlying parts of the parish - it has been possible to build up a comprehensive picture of life in Stoughton today. The overwhelming view is that Stoughton is a very pleasant place to live - indeed, 35% of all respondents to our questionnaire have lived here for over 20 years. Anyone unaccustomed to our Parish would undoubtedly question why people are drawn to Stoughton and continue to live here for many years when they learn that: There is no single reason as to why 300 people (source: 2001 Census) choose to live in Stoughton but, perhaps, the answer lies in its quiet rural setting, the appearance, quality and style of properties in the small estate village, its attractive conservation area, the lovely unspoilt surrounding countryside and the close proximity to the centre of Leicester, which is only 4 miles away, with the whole range of facilities which a major city provides. |
